I can’t believe we’re already into November! Looking forward to lots of great musical activities this month.
First up, I have weekend working with Laura-Beth Salter to put together some new material, as we’re planning our second album! We’re also heading off to the Islay Sessions 17th – 19th Nov, so perhaps there’ll be some new music to share there.
I’m heading to Leith Folk Club with Ryan Young on 14th Nov too. It’s great fun working with Ryan; he transfixes audiences when he plays. He’ll tell me what key he’s playing in, but apart from that, the arrangements are kept so open we have the freedom to react with each other. Every show is different!
I’ve also got the pleasure of working with Claire Hastings this month, as we’re heading up to Montrose Folk Club on 23rd, and we’re also in rehearsals for her new album too! Lots of new music, loads of lovely new songs and it’s great to be working with fiddler Laura Wilkie and pianist Tom Gibbs on the project. Both beautiful musicians and great pals.
I’ve got a big weekend over 25th / 26th celebrating St Andrew’s Day. First, I have a gig with Phil & Aly and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, along with some special guests. It’s a fantastic experience playing with such a brilliant orchestra, and it’s always a giggle working with Phil & Aly. Here’s a video about the gig:
On 26th, I’ll be in Stevenson Hall at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to perform with some of the students from the BMus Traditional Music course for their BBC Radio Scotland St Andrew’s Day Celebration. I was musical director for the student band ‘Ur’ this year; we created a fantastic programme of music, and travelled to Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton to perform it. We’re looking forward to sharing that music along with a whole host of other musical surprises both at the live gig, and on BBC Radio Scotland on 30th Nov.
I’ll also be at a few free gigs around Glasgow this month – The Blas Collective (Laura-Beth Salter, Adam Sutherland, Steve Forman & I) will be reunited on 13th and 27th, playing a load of fun songs and tunes from around 10pm. I’ll also be playing a gig in the Lismore Bar in Partick on 30th with Jamie Smith (fiddle).
Hope to see some of you out and about!
