Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton: Autumn tour 2017

Well, I’ve just returned from a brilliant 7 day tour with Ross & Ali.  We visited some great venues, and met some lovely people. The first leg of our tour covered the north of Scotland, visiting The Universal Hall in Findhorn, The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool and Glassel Hall near Banchory.  With 4 people, 8 instruments, 3 pedal boards and a rake of other stuff, the car was a bit of a squeeze.  Luckily I studied at the Mary Macmaster school of van packing during my time touring with Songs of Separation, so we managed to cram everything in with a tiny bit of room to breathe…

The gigs were great fun, and I soon settled into the swing of things – learning the subtle differences between Ali’s stage shouts.  Who knew that ‘AGAIN’ and ‘STOP’ could sound so similar.

The second leg of the tour took us to Liverpool, Bristol, Bury and London, where we concluded the tour with a joint gig with the fantastic Breabach.  I did think that it wasn’t much to have just 2 sets of highland bagpipes onstage, so having 2 more from Calum and James in Breabach was great.  😉

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the gigs, it was lovely to see so many friendly faces.  Thanks to Ali, Ross & Andrea for fantastic music, a great tour and lots of fun.  Also, thanks to Jacky Pankhurst for her unwavering energy and her photos and videos.
